Question 1

What counts as an AC emergency?

Accepted Answer

No cooling during dangerous heat, electrical or burning smells, water damage, or a complete shutdown all qualify. When in doubt, call us.

Question 2

How do I know if my ducts are leaking?

Accepted Answer

Uneven room temperatures, high bills, and excess dust are common signs. We can perform an airflow assessment to confirm.

Question 3

How long does it take for a frozen AC to thaw?

Accepted Answer

Usually one to three hours with the fan running. Never chip at the ice — let it melt naturally.

Question 4

Should I turn off my AC if it's not cooling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If it's running constantly without cooling, turn it off to prevent coil freeze or compressor damage, then call for service.

Question 5

Is an AC water leak an emergency?

Accepted Answer

It can cause serious water damage and mold quickly. Shut the system off and call for service the same day.

Question 6

Why is my AC blowing warm air only sometimes?

Accepted Answer

Intermittent warm air often points to a failing capacitor, a refrigerant issue, or a coil that repeatedly freezes and thaws. Have it inspected.

Question 7

Should I turn off my AC if it is not cooling?

Accepted Answer

Turn it off if you see ice, water near electrical equipment, smoke, sparks, repeated breaker trips, a burning smell, or severe mechanical noises. If it is only cooling slowly, check the thermostat and filter, but call for service if the temperature does not improve.

Question 8

Can I add refrigerant to an AC that is not cooling?

Accepted Answer

No. Refrigerant requires proper tools, credentials, and diagnostic procedures. Because refrigerant is not consumed during normal operation, a low charge commonly indicates a leak or a previous charging issue that should be identified.

Question 9

When should I call for emergency AC repair in Cocoa, FL?

Accepted Answer

You should seek prompt professional service if your AC has completely stopped cooling, your home is becoming excessively hot, the system repeatedly trips a breaker, you smell burning or electrical odors, you see smoke, there is significant water around the indoor unit, or the equipment is making unusual noises.

Question 10

Why is my AC running but not cooling my Cocoa home?

Accepted Answer

Possible causes include restricted airflow, a dirty filter, a frozen evaporator coil, refrigerant-related problems, a dirty outdoor coil, blower problems, thermostat issues, ductwork problems, or an aging system.

Question 11

Why is my AC not cooling properly in Brevard County?

Accepted Answer

Common causes include restricted airflow, a dirty air filter, a frozen evaporator coil, refrigerant-related problems, a dirty outdoor coil, thermostat issues, blower problems, ductwork problems, or an aging air conditioning system.

Question 12

Why is my AC blowing warm air?

Accepted Answer

An AC may blow warm air because of restricted airflow, a frozen coil, thermostat problems, refrigerant-related issues, an outdoor unit that is not operating correctly, or another mechanical or electrical problem.

Question 13

What should I check if my AC is not cooling?

Accepted Answer

Start by checking that the thermostat is set to COOL, the temperature is set below the current room temperature, the air filter is not severely clogged, and the HVAC circuit breaker has not tripped. If the problem continues, professional diagnosis is recommended.

Question 14

When should I call for emergency AC repair in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Prompt HVAC service may be appropriate when your AC has completely stopped cooling, your home is becoming excessively hot, the system repeatedly trips a breaker, you smell burning or electrical odors, you see smoke, there is significant water around the indoor unit, or the equipment is making unusual noises.

Question 15

Is an AC blowing warm air an emergency?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the circumstances. Warm air can result from several problems, some of which require prompt repair. If the home is becoming excessively hot, the system has completely lost cooling, or there are signs of an electrical or mechanical problem, professional service should be considered promptly.

Question 16

How can I prevent an AC emergency in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Regular maintenance, timely filter replacement, keeping the outdoor condenser clear, paying attention to unusual noises or changes in cooling performance, and addressing developing problems early can help reduce the chance of an unexpected breakdown.

Question 17

Can leaking ducts make a Brevard County home feel more humid?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Return leaks can pull humid attic or outdoor air into the HVAC system, while supply leaks can create pressure imbalances that draw humid air through gaps in the house. High humidity can have other causes, so moisture, airflow, equipment operation, and the building envelope should be evaluated together.

Question 18

Is it better to seal leaking ducts or replace them?

Accepted Answer

Localized leaks in otherwise sound ductwork may be repairable. Replacement may be more appropriate when flexible ducts are brittle, torn in multiple places, wet, contaminated, badly crushed, poorly sized, or deteriorated beyond reliable sealing. An inspection should determine which approach is practical.

Question 19

How quickly should I call if my AC starts blowing warm air?

Accepted Answer

Check the thermostat and air filter first. If warm air continues, call for service—especially if the outdoor unit is not running, the system is frozen, a breaker trips, or the indoor temperature is becoming unsafe.

Question 20

How quickly should I call for AC repair if my Palm Bay home is not cooling?

Accepted Answer

Call promptly if the system runs but the indoor temperature keeps rising, especially during extreme heat or when vulnerable occupants are present. Shut the unit off sooner if you notice ice, burning odors, sparks, severe noises, leaking water near electrical components, or a repeatedly tripping breaker.

Question 21

Can I keep running my air conditioner if the coil is frozen?

Accepted Answer

No. Turn cooling off because continued operation can worsen the ice and place additional strain on the system. You may run the indoor fan to help thaw the coil if there are no electrical or water hazards, but recurring freezing requires professional diagnosis.

Question 22

How much can duct sealing save?

Accepted Answer

Sealing leaky ducts can recover up to 20-30% of lost airflow, meaningfully lowering your energy bills.

Question 23

Is a heat pump more expensive than an AC?

Accepted Answer

Upfront costs are similar, but a heat pump often saves money over time by heating far more efficiently than electric heat strips.

Question 24

How much does a 3-ton AC system cost in Brevard County in 2026?

Accepted Answer

A 3-ton central AC or heat pump replacement may cost roughly $7,000 to $14,000 installed, although basic projects can fall below that range and high-efficiency or complex installations can exceed it. Duct repairs, electrical work, equipment type, access and permit requirements determine the actual price.

Question 25

Will a coastal Brevard home cost more to equip with a new AC?

Accepted Answer

It can. Coastal exposure may influence equipment selection, corrosion considerations, mounting and anchoring, while elevated or tight-access properties can require additional labor. Distance from the ocean alone does not determine the price, so an on-site inspection is necessary.

Question 26

Is a higher SEER2 heat pump always worth the extra cost?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. A higher SEER2 rating indicates better seasonal cooling efficiency under standardized testing, but the financial return depends on usage, electricity prices, installation cost and system life. Correct sizing, duct condition and installation quality can be as important as the efficiency rating.

Question 27

Do you offer financing on new systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer flexible financing so you can get the right system without draining your savings.

Question 28

Do you offer financing in Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

Aquila Air & Heating provides access to financing options for qualifying HVAC projects. Financing is subject to lender approval and the applicable financing terms.

Question 34

Should I repair or replace my AC?

Accepted Answer

If your system is under 10 years old and the repair is minor, repair usually makes sense. For older systems with major failures, we'll show you the numbers so you can decide.

Question 35

When should I schedule a tune-up?

Accepted Answer

Spring is ideal to prepare for cooling season, with an optional fall check for heating. Members get both included.

Question 36

Should I replace or repair my ducts?

Accepted Answer

Minor leaks can be sealed, but old, moldy, or poorly designed duct systems are usually better replaced for lasting results.

Question 37

When should I schedule my AC tune-up in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Spring — March through May — is ideal, before the peak-season rush and before your system is under maximum strain.

Question 38

How long does a typical AC replacement take?

Accepted Answer

A straightforward matched-system replacement is often completed in one working day. Duct replacement, electrical upgrades, access problems, inspection scheduling or structural modifications can extend the project to multiple days.

Question 39

Should I replace my ductwork at the same time as the AC?

Accepted Answer

Replace or repair ducts when inspection reveals significant leakage, damage, contamination, poor sizing or inadequate airflow. Sound, correctly sized ducts may be reused. Ask the contractor to document observed problems instead of assuming every older duct system needs full replacement.

Question 40

Is a 10-year-old AC in Florida worth repairing?

Accepted Answer

It can be. A repair may be reasonable if the system has been dependable, is in good overall condition and needs a straightforward fix. Replacement becomes more compelling when the repair is expensive, corrosion is advanced, refrigerant leaks recur or other major components are also deteriorating.

Question 41

Does salt air mean I need to replace my coastal AC sooner?

Accepted Answer

Salt exposure can accelerate corrosion, especially near the Atlantic Ocean or Indian River Lagoon, but replacement timing still depends on the severity and location of the damage. A professional should inspect the coil, cabinet, electrical connections and refrigerant circuit before recommending replacement.

Question 42

Should the indoor and outdoor AC units be replaced together?

Accepted Answer

They generally need to form a properly matched system to achieve the intended capacity, efficiency and refrigerant compatibility. A contractor should verify manufacturer matching data rather than assuming an older indoor unit will work correctly with a new outdoor unit.

Question 43

Can I wait until winter to replace my AC in Brevard County?

Accepted Answer

You can plan replacement during cooler weather if the system remains safe and reliable, but Brevard County does not have a guaranteed no-cooling season. Scheduling before a breakdown gives you more time to compare options and complete any duct, electrical or permit-related work.

Question 44

Should I repair or replace my AC after it stops working?

Accepted Answer

The decision depends on the age and condition of the system, the type and cost of the repair, previous repair history, energy efficiency, availability of parts, and expected remaining service life. A professional diagnosis can help you understand your options.

Question 45

When should I call for AC repair in Brevard County?

Accepted Answer

Contact an HVAC professional when your AC continues blowing warm air, runs constantly without reaching the thermostat setting, repeatedly trips a breaker, leaks water, makes unusual noises, or cannot maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
